Pax East Review and Pictures

We finally got back and have time to post a few pictures from the event.

A review:

this is my first year for Pax East and I went as a visitor.

I have been to large events in Chicago, Cleveland ( iHobby Expo), Toronto ( Fan Expo ) as an exhibitor I have also been to these events as a visitor.

Speakers

  • by and large they were helpful
  • a couple did start late. I didn’t have any that were full and had to refuse participants
  • learned a lot and worth attending

The show

  • I was amazed at the number of Magic the Gathering and board game players. A large event
  • this place is loud
  • lots to do and see
  • with all the speakers I wanted to see, I couldn’t see all the booth in one day

first a few problems :

  • there are simply not enough washrooms at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. This is a problem with the site. (There were even broken stall doors.)
  • Pax needs to do a better job of training staff. I got wrong directions on more than a few times
  • the food was terrible. Seriously. I am used to over priced food, but there was no choice. No place to get a coffee. Lines were so
  • long you didn’t bother to wait.
  • very little seating outside of the seminar rooms
  • my daughter complainted of being ignored at some booths by the exhibitors
  • I fail to see the point of waiting 5-6 hours to see Oculus Rift. Exhibitors would be best to have a large screen and have a
  • speaker doing demo of anything for sale to an audience
  • I thought Chicago and Toronto were bad for traffic. Boston is worse. The organizer need to move traffic better. Spend some
  • money and put more traffic police on duty
  • there were no maps initially showing the layout of the place. (individual one but not a grand plan)
  • plan for lots of time for the shuttles. There was a line up at our hotel and we just took a cab.
  • at the end of the day, another line up for cabs
  • there were lines to get in, but we got in fast because we had to pick up tickets at Will Call and went through another line

Suggestions

  • I may not be going next year but if I  attend again, I will get a hotel much closer to the event
  • bring a back pack to put your stuff in. You are allowed water.  ( I not sure on food. )
  • if it is cold again during the event, dress for it. You will have to wait outside for everything

The GPS is in Kilometers. It was a long way!
