Skit

Ooh, very nice. Uh-huh, you betcha. Ooh. [music] What in tarnation? Hey there, welcome to Loisirs vers le soleil. How can I help you today? Oh, hello bud. Nice to meet you. Um Let me be honest with you. Do you really think this kit is worth that much? I mean, no disrespect, mister, but back in my day I could get a kit like this for only a nickel. That’s the one with [music] the beaver on it. Speaking of which, I have a pet beaver at my lodge.

Thanks to him, my lodge never floods. His name is Mark. Anyway, long story short, do you have anything in the store at least worth $30? Well, here you go. The Nissan Silvia, $27. Less than $30. Not bad, eh? Sounds good. Thank you very much, sir. You’ll have good karma coming your way. Take care now. Bye-bye. Bye. Uh-huh.

Intro

Welcome to Loisirs vers le soleil. Over a year ago, David gave us a tour [music] of Sunward Hobbies, but it had a catch. He was going to show you what $100 [music] can get you in a typical hobby store, especially Sunward Hobbies. Things have changed obviously within the last [music] year and a half, So, we will be lowering the budget to 80. All jokes aside, [music] $80 still does go a long way, which is the point of today’s video. We will have an $80 budget as I show you around Sunward Hobbies. Speaking of $80, did you know that $80 is the free shipping threshold on our website $80 pre-tax, [music] you qualify for free shipping. That’s right. And shipping occurs behind this black curtain [music] void thing.

Who knows what happens there, but that is where the magic happens. We ship orders daily, same uh [music] day on the weekdays. And best part? We ship nationwide. So, yeah. Click the links in the description down below. Every single item on video today will be available on our website sunwardhobbies.ca. This video will be split into two categories. [music] Sets and not sets. Basically, for the second category, we will make up our own combinations so long as it reaches $80 or a little bit less, but not exceeding, cuz that is the goal. [music] That is our budget for today. Just so I can show you the possibilities.

Games Workshop – Sets

Up first, Games Workshop Warhammer. What does $80 get me at Warhammer? All jokes aside, Games Workshop surprisingly may actually dominate the set category as they have some of the best sets that you can buy. Like this Intercessor set right here, which contains [music] two Space Marines and the paints and the brush needed to paint both, [music] which is really good value. But you’re like, “Paul, is that like $100?” Nope, it’s 43.22 including tax.

That’s Canadian as well. So, this is a really good value. Another really good deal is surprisingly from Games Workshop. Again, I told you they’ll probably dominate this set section because this is 13 paints plus [music] the tools, which is a nipper and a brush and a file uh mold line remover specifically. So, 13 paints, all that and how much? $100? Nope. 52.83. [music] That’s insane. What about other brands paint sets? Well, funny you [music] mention them.

Airfix & Revell – Sets

We have Airfix right here, their paint sets, which includes the kit themselves. So, paints from Humbrol acrylics and we have the kit [music] and a brush and cement. Really good deal for 28.49. Really good. Not to be outdone, of course, we have Revell’s very own. We have the [music] F-14D Super Tomcat. Uh this set comes with a brush, acrylic paints, [music] and cement all for 61.99. And this [music] one comes with the exact same thing as well, but for 66.99. This is a BMW i8. Guess the $5 difference is because they have to pay for the BMW license. [snorts]

Paint Sets

You might be asking yourself, “What about [music] paint sets?” Don’t worry, I got you. Up first, we have Game Colors four-pack paint [music] sets. These are 18.69 respectively and they often come in a gradient like this. So, we [music] have the white color paint set, shades of white, and then we have the green one for example. And ever since the release of True Metallic Metal in November of 2025, they’ve also come out with these four-pack [music] paint sets, the True Metallic Metal version, and it’s 22.99. Quite a decent deal, [music] actually.

Well beyond the $80 mark. On the more premium side of things, we have [music] Ammo by Mig Atom paints. This is specifically the Atom basic war games colors number two set. It has 12 paints. [music] Each bottle, by the way, of Atom paints is 20 ml, has retarder and self-leveling features. That’s why it is more expensive $66.99. Still below the threshold of $80, [music] but this is an incredible paint, an incredible buy. Probably the best paints in the store. You heard it here. Even David loves it.

Mix & Match

All right. With that being said, let’s make our own sets. Remember, we cannot exceed [music] $80, but this could be anything. A mix of paints, tools, and kits, kits, and kits, [music] and kits, or anything in between. I call this first set son’s first space marine, as it combines [music] the paint set I mentioned earlier, which is mocking the competition, by the way. [laughter] And Vallejo’s spray ultramarine primer. [music] Combined, this is $65. Wow, [music] incredible value. And that’s with tax.

Up next, I have what I’m calling the history buff set. And I’m using the word set here very loosely, as these are just two 1/35 scale kits. I have the Walker Bulldog on the left and the Panzer Kampfwagen on the right. So, [music] it’s just two classic kits, and the heart wants what the heart wants. And sometimes it wants two Tamiya kits. [music] This does come out to, with tax, $63.81 Canadian.

This new set I call the initial D. The D stands [music] for damn Tamiya’s banned, so I have to find a replacement. And the replacements in this case is Mr. Color as sprays and the surfacer oxidizer red. The initial deep paint set comes out to $61.55 Canadian, well below the $80 Canadian threshold we set for ourselves. [music] And yes, before you even ask, cuz I know it’s coming, these two are synthetic lacquers and are indeed a worthy replacement to Tamiya Sprays as a whole, at least if you’re Canadian. Also, just because they’re just replacements doesn’t mean that they’re not good.

Paul’s Conclusion

So, hopefully I’ve convinced you that $80 Canadian will go a long way, especially if [music] you support your local hobby store, Loisirs vers le soleil. Hopefully you enjoyed this [music] video. If you did, let me know which sets you enjoyed the most, pre-made or otherwise. And of course, [music] subscribe if you enjoyed this video.

We’re trying to hit 20K. We’re like 300 subs away or something. We’re very close. [music] Also down below, links in the description for our real-time website, which contains the over 17,000 [music] items. Also down below, finally, are all our social media pages. We [music] are active on all of them, the new one being LinkedIn. That’s crazy. We’re active on LinkedIn. So, yeah. Thank you guys so [music] much. My name is Paul, and keep supporting local. Thank you, guys. Bye-bye.
