Intro

Hello all. This is David from Loisirs vers le soleil and welcome to part two of my Meng 1/32nd scale Fokker DR1 build. So in part one, we assembled most of the interior. Now in part two, I’m going to just finish off a few more assemblies and then we will start priming and pre-shading the interior. And if we have time, we may even do some painting as well. So, let’s get started.

Instruments and Wheel Spar Assembly

All I have left to do really before I start priming is to get these instruments ready as well as colle together the wheel spar. So, let’s just quickly get started on that.

Interior Parts Assembled

And it’s gone. Good thing I made this, however, that is a piece of leftover sprue cut into a circular instrument. So, with that, we have now got all the interior parts assembled and they’re all placed on this handy rolled up tape. And now we can start priming. And for that, I will be using Alclad’s Black Primer and Micro Filler.

Priming And Marbling

This would be my first time using this primer. Uh, I picked it cuz uh since Mr Finishing Surfacer is gone in Canada, this is really the only lacquer primer left out there. So, uh, we’ll see if it’s a suitable substitute to the finishing surfacer. All right, first thing you got to do is shake it. It is pre-thinned, so no need for adding any thinner. So, I’m going to take a pipette and dispense what I need into the aérographe.

So, this primer kind of smells like those old permanent markers. Here, have a whiff. See? So, before I pass out, I’m going to go put on a respirator and then we will start priming. Now, I’m just about out of time for today, but before I wrap this up, I’m just going to quickly show you how I personally like to paint wood grain.

How to Paint Wood Grain

So, the cockpit floor here is all wood. This is going to have to be hand painted partially. So, what I like to do is take a light color like a either a blanche or a light grey and take a a brosser that you don’t really care about, something preferably more stiff in the bristles like this one. Wipe some of it off.

And then just lazily paint lines like this. And it’s best for the base to be either a black or a dark brown. So, as you can see, it’s created a streaky pattern. And uh next week when we do part three, I will airbrush some RLM 79 sand yellow onto this and it’ll give it a very convincing looking wood grain effect.

Conclusion

And that was part two of this build. Stay tuned for part three where I will start painting and assembling the interior. So, thank you very much for watching this video. Remember to like, comment, subscribe, follow us on our socials, and until the next one, adios.
