Initial Information:

First released in 1998, Item 35224 1/35 German Schwimmwagen Type 166 with narrow tires has long been a favorite among military modelers. Building on that enduring popularity, Tamiya now introduces a new Schwimmwagen kit equipped with wide tires, expanded onboard equipment, and two newly sculpted figures. Developed by the German Wehrmacht to cope with Europe’s river-filled terrain and marshlands, the Schwimmwagen was an amphibious adaptation of the Ferdinand Porsche–designed Kübelwagen. Powered by a 4-cylinder gasoline engine producing 25 horsepower, it could reach speeds of up to 80km/h on land. When entering water, a manually lowered three-blade propeller provided propulsion at speeds of up to 10km/h. Although wartime shortages often forced the use of narrow 133mm tyres, vehicles fitted with wider 200mm tyres offered noticeably improved off-road capability—an option now accurately represented in this new kit.

  • Kar.98k rifle mounted on the crossbar
  • Windshield parts with or without protective cover
  • Additional onboard equipment
• Canteens and helmet can be positioned freely for customized stowage
• Two all-new figures are included: a seated driver and a standing officer
• Decals provide four German Army and two German Air Force license plates, plus detailed insignia for caps, sleeves, and collars

Please note that Tamiya Item 35224 (narrow-tire version) will continue to be available alongside this newly released wide-tire Schwimmwagen kit, giving builders even more flexibility when recreating WWII scenes.
