The introduction of Tamiya’s newly tooled original M24 Chaffee marks a major milestone, replacing the earlier Item 37020 which relied on Italeri components. Designed as the next-generation replacement for the M3/M5 Stuart series, the M24 Chaffee was officially adopted by the U.S. Army in 1944 and represented a significant leap forward in light tank design. Its hull and turret made extensive use of sloped armor for improved protection, while its compact silhouette preserved the speed and agility expected of a reconnaissance vehicle. Firepower was equally impressive for its class, thanks to a 75mm main gun derived from an aircraft weapon developed for the B-25 bomber. Adding to its distinctive engineering, the Chaffee employed torsion bar suspension—an uncommon choice for American tanks of the era. Entering service late in World War II, it saw combat across France, Western Europe, and Italy, and continued to serve in major postwar conflicts including the Korean War and the Indochina War.
