Urak Taar on Ghorrakos: Ancient Beyond Measure

Studied Under Hashut Himself

It is said that Urak Taar is ancient beyond measure, his lifespan stretching back to an age when gods walked among mortals and the secrets of daemon-binding were still being discovered. Most remarkably, he studied how to shackle Chaos under Hashut himself, learning directly from the Father of Darkness the forbidden knowledge required to imprison daemons within mechanical forms. This unprecedented tutelage makes Urak Taar not merely a powerful sorcerer but the living repository of techniques and rituals that no other Daemonsmith can claim to possess. His knowledge predates written records and surpasses anything that can be found in libraries or grimoires—it comes from the source itself.

Creator of Countless Daemon Engines

Urak Taar has crafted more daemon engines than even he can recall, his centuries of work producing an arsenal of infernal machines that have terrorized the Mortal Realms since time immemorial. Each creation represents a masterwork of engineering and sorcery, a fusion of metal and malevolence that serves as testament to his unparalleled skill. The sheer volume of his output staggers the imagination—hundreds, perhaps thousands of war machines, each one containing a bound daemon and each one bearing his distinctive touch. Many of the techniques modern Daemonsmiths use trace their lineage directly to innovations Urak Taar pioneered generations ago.

Architect of the Forge Anathema’s Conversion

Perhaps Urak Taar’s greatest achievement was bringing the great Forge Anathema itself to the Bullfather’s worship, converting an entire ziggurat and its industrial complex to Hashut’s service. This was no simple conquest but a theological and practical transformation that required defeating existing power structures, purging rival cults, and rebuilding both physical infrastructure and spiritual allegiance from the ground up. The Forge Anathema now stands as one of the most productive and powerful centers of Helsmiths industry, churning out daemon engines and war materiel in quantities that fuel entire campaigns. This single accomplishment would cement any sorcerer’s legacy; for Urak Taar, it is merely one entry in a catalog of dark wonders.

Defying the Stone-Flesh Curse Through Will and Sorcery

Urak Taar ought to have been consumed by the stone-flesh curse long ago, the inevitable fate of all duardin who delve too deeply into Hashut’s mysteries and bind too many daemons to their will. Yet through sheer willpower and arcane secrets learned across centuries of study, he has delayed this doom far beyond what should be possible. His body shows signs of the curse’s progression—patches of flesh transformed to stone, joints that move with grinding reluctance—but he refuses to succumb. This defiance of fate demonstrates both his extraordinary determination and his mastery of magic powerful enough to postpone even divine judgment.

Ambition to Achieve Godhood

Having accomplished everything a mortal Daemonsmith might aspire to, Urak Taar now seeks nothing less than to follow his master Hashut into godhood itself. This is not hubris but calculated ambition backed by millennia of preparation and achievements that already border on the divine. He has bound more daemons than any living being, created weapons that reshape battlefields, converted entire civilizations to his god’s worship, and cheated the curse that should have claimed him generations ago. In his mind, apotheosis is not an impossible dream but the logical next step in a journey that has already transcended mortal limitations.

Mounted Upon Bronze-Bodied Ghorrakos

This multipart plastic kit builds Urak Taar mounted on his Infernal Taurus, Ghorrakos, a bronze-bodied daemon-beast of terrible power. Ghorrakos is no ordinary mount but a bound entity of immense strength whose metallic form was crafted by Urak Taar himself to serve as both transportation and weapon. The Taurus’s bronze construction makes it nearly indestructible, shrugging off attacks that would kill flesh-and-blood creatures while delivering devastating charges that crush enemies beneath metal hooves. Together, Urak Taar and Ghorrakos form a symbiotic partnership of sorcerer and daemon-machine that represents the pinnacle of Helsmiths combat doctrine.

Wields the Flames of Ruin Without Fear

Atop Ghorrakos, Urak Taar wields the flames of ruin without fear, channeling destructive energies that would immolate lesser sorcerers who attempted to harness such power. These are not ordinary fires but supernatural conflagrations born from Hashut’s furnaces, capable of melting stone and reducing armies to ash in moments. His complete confidence when manipulating these flames comes from understanding their true nature—not as uncontrollable forces but as tools to be directed with precision and purpose. Watch as he sweeps across the battlefield raining destruction upon enemies who have no defense against divine fire.

Inflicts the Dreadful Stone-Flesh Curse

Beyond his personal combat prowess and devastating spells, Urak Taar subjects foes to a portion of his own dreadful curse, spreading the stone-flesh affliction to enemies who dare oppose him. This is perhaps his cruelest ability—sharing the fate he has worked so hard to delay, watching as enemy champions feel their flesh hardening and their movements slowing as stone creeps through their bodies. Victims experience the horror of gradual petrification, knowing they are transforming into statues that will stand as eternal monuments to their failure. This curse breaks morale and eliminates threats simultaneously, making Urak Taar dangerous even to opponents who might resist his other attacks.

Ultimate Leader for Helsmiths Armies

As the first and greatest Daemonsmith, Urak Taar serves as the ultimate leader for your Helsmiths of Hashut armies in games of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. His presence on the battlefield elevates every other unit in your force, his ancient knowledge ensuring war machines operate at peak efficiency and his tactical genius positioning troops for maximum effect. He is an absolute terror in combat, lashing out with spells even while Ghorrakos grinds foes into the earth under its metal hooves and gores them with long horns. No enemy commander can match his experience, and no opposing army can withstand the combined might of history’s greatest daemon-binder and his bronze-bodied mount.

Towering Centerpiece Model

Standing at 144mm tall with a wingspan of 193mm, this darkly majestic miniature towers over your army and dominates the tabletop with sheer physical presence. The scale ensures Urak Taar and Ghorrakos become the immediate focal point of any game, drawing eyes and creating memorable moments as they swoop across the battlefield. This isn’t just a large model but an imposing monument to dark industry and daemonic power that captures attention from across the room. The wingspan in particular creates dramatic silhouettes and ensures the model makes a statement about the ambition and power level of your entire collection.

Stunning Details for Master Painters

Beyond dominating on the tabletop through rules and presence, the stunning details including stone-cursed flesh, intricate runes, and embedded gems make this miniature a true test of your painting skills. The stone-flesh curse provides opportunities to demonstrate transition effects between organic tissue and mineral stone, creating visual storytelling that captures Urak Taar’s ongoing battle against his fate. The numerous runes carved into both sorcerer and mount offer chances for glowing effects, edge highlighting, and the kind of meticulous detail work that separates good painting from exceptional artistry. The gems scattered across the model allow practice with transparency effects and object source lighting.

Optional Staff Configuration

Urak Taar can be assembled with or without ruinous torrents on his staff, providing modeling choice that affects the miniature’s visual impact and suggests different moments in combat. The version with torrents shows the staff actively channeling destructive magic, flames pouring forth in a display of raw power. The version without emphasizes the staff as a focus and symbol of authority, its power contained but ready to be unleashed. This choice allows you to customize your centerpiece to match your vision of Urak Taar’s character and your preferred aesthetic for displaying devastating magical potential.

Alternative Build as Generic Mounted Daemonsmith

This miniature can alternatively be built as a Daemonsmith on Infernal Taurus, representing a cunning and twisted mounted sorcerer who lacks Urak Taar’s unique history but still commands tremendous power. This build option provides flexibility for players who want the tactical advantages of an aerial spellcaster without committing to the specific named character. The generic Daemonsmith can be customized more freely to fit your army’s narrative, representing your own original character or allowing multiple similar models without duplicating the legendary Urak Taar himself.

Substantial Component Count for Epic Construction

With 76 plastic components, this kit delivers a complex, detailed model that rewards careful assembly and provides numerous opportunities for customization and posed elements. The generous parts count allows for dynamic flying poses, individually positioned limbs and weapons, elaborate armor and equipment, and the kind of mechanical detail that brings both sorcerer and Taurus to life. Mounted on a Citadel 130mm Round Base that provides stable support for this large flying model, the finished piece commands appropriate space on the battlefield while offering ample room for scenic basing elements that tell stories of past conquests and daemon-binding rituals.

Crown Jewel of Your Collection

Urak Taar on Ghorrakos represents the crown jewel of any Helsmiths of Hashut collection, embodying everything the faction stands for while providing unmatched power on the tabletop. Add this ancient sorcerer to your forces and command a being who learned daemon-binding from Hashut himself, who has created more infernal engines than he can count, who converted the Forge Anathema through sheer determination, and who now seeks nothing less than to ascend to godhood. Watch as he swoops across the battlefield wielding flames of ruin without fear, grinding enemies beneath Ghorrakos’s bronze hooves while subjecting them to the same stone-flesh curse he has defied for centuries. This is not merely a powerful unit but a legend made manifest, the living embodiment of ambition, sorcery, and the relentless pursuit of power that defines the Helsmiths of Hashut.

Assembly with Citadel Plastic Glue and painting with Citadel Colour paints brings these ancient horrors and elite warriors to life in your personal color schemes.

From the Community:

As one of the most ancient mortals still living in the Age of Sigmar – depending on where you draw the line on the slann and a few other characters – it is said Urak Taar learned how to shackle daemons from Hashut himself. He has created countless weapons and daemon engines, and continues to practise cruel magic in an attempt to reach godhood himself, even though he should have succumbed to the stone-flesh curse many centuries ago. As the leader of the Forge Anathema, he rides into battle atop the bronze-bodied Ghorrakos, an Infernal Taurus that displays a frightening degree of sentience.

This kit can also build a Daemonsmith on Infernal Taurus, who uses their position atop a living statue to cast powerful sorceries and turn the tide of battle, before charging in to skewer and crush their pitiful foes with their living statue mounts. The Daemonsmith has two head options and two options for each arm, while the Infernal Taurus has two pairs of horns to choose from, plus a forehead gem with and without smoke emitting from it.
