High Quality

I use this texture paste for most of my basing needs. It works great out of the jar for a plain sand look, with the grains being of suitable appearance for most modelling/diorama needs and not looking out of place or scale on the 28mm figures I mostly use it on.

When dried, it can also be painted over to completely change the colour. It may also be tinted with a brown ink or wash (or any other colour depending what you are trying to accomplish) to achieve a look akin to a lighter dirt or gravel. The cured product may also be sanded in order to achieve a particular shape or look if one wishes to do so.

I primarily use this paste on the bases of figures, but also have had success using it for finishing pieces of terrain.

See the attached pictures for an example of how the paste can be used in different ways. In the case of the arena floor, the paste is unaltered. The two gladiators have had their bases treated with a flesh wash.

In the second picture, depicting a Roman hastatus, the paste has been treated with a brown wash.

For a dirt or gravel style finish, simply apply a brown wash, optionally following that up with a drybrushing of a light brown or beige to draw out and further accentuate the grains.

To achieve a look of varying sized gravel grains, you can use a bit of the partially dried paste which accumulates on the inside of the lid. Simply scoop it up and put it down on the surface as you would normally, and spread it. Then apply a thin coat of the wet paste straight from the jar to ensure it is fixed into place.

If you're going for a sand look, but feel it lacks something out of the jar, I would recommend sparingly using a sepia or flesh coloured wash. This provides a subtle shade effect but also retains what reads as sand.

Overall this is a quality product which I regularly use in a diversity of ways and is always handy to have on hand. The volume on offer here goes a long way.

AK rocks

First time using AK, it makes basing miniatures so fast and easy and looks excellent. I used a bit of contrast paint on it after it cured and added a few bits of flock. It turned out so well that it is my new standard

Sand... Texture.

Sand... I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not AK desert sand texture though! Comes out of the bottle soft, and application is smooth. Seriously though, AK Sand Texture is great for when you don't really want to paint your bases and yet want to put your Deepkin on something. They also do respond well to coating cork convincingly. No more terribly artificial and sad-looking cork bases. I've included some images of the texture at various stages of application as examples.

AK Terrains - Desert Sand

I have a number of the AK terrains products and like the others - this is really great stuff for basing and modelling terrain. Good stuff from AK and you get a good amount of it in the container. Going to order the AK terrains "Snow" next.
