Where the heck was this when the movie rcitadeeleased? [singing] I’m going to stop before we get copyrighted. Hi, my name is Paul. Welcome to the Sunward Hobbies YouTube channel. And today we’re doing another episode of quick reviews featuring a kit that should have maybe probably released a month or two prior before the movie came out. It would have certainly helped its numbers with the box office cuz it kind of flopped. Anyway, this is the tie-in merch from uh AMT’s rendition of the Razer Crest, [music] specifically the Razer Crest from the movie The Mandalorian and Grogu, which by the way, I’m going to set the record straight. Action-wise, the movie is a 10 out of 10. [music] Uh, I can’t see any problem. And in fact, the action is spectacular. The movie itself though, story-wise, eh, a six, whatever. [music] Nothing of note really happened. It’s just an adventure with Baby Yoda.
So, that’s about it. So, the movie itself a seven. Um, it for you to be a top [music] five movie for me, you have to clear Return of the Jedi, which is my number five always. It’s like the gatekeeper to the top five. It doesn’t clear that. It’s better than Solo. It’s better than Episode One. Uh, I don’t. It’s definitely better than episode two. Uh, [music] episode three is in my top five. So, you know, I want one. It’s a middle of the pack movie is what I’m [music] saying for Star Wars, which is good. Uh, does it deserve to flop? No, I don’t think so. Uh, but it did because this released 3 weeks after the launch of the movie.
Not a great plan. So yeah, we’re going to be reviewing this bad boy today [music] and seeing the differences between this kit and the one released prior by AMT, the one for the TV [music] show. Was it 2021, 2022? So yeah, before we get started, I just like to quickly point out that every single product shown in this video, including the Razer Crest itself, [music] is available on our website right now, sunwardhobbies.ca. That is our real time inventory. [music] We ship same day. We offer free shipping, 80 plus, a pre-tax of course, and we ship nationwide. So yeah, what are you waiting for? Links in the description [music] down below. This is the 1/72nd rendition from AMT. [music] And as I
Box Overview
said before, this is not directly from the TV show. This is directly from the movie itself. There [music] are some differences here and there. I’m going to say it right now though, they are made from the same excellent tooling, by the way, [music] from the TV show era. So that would be around 2021 is when that was released. 2022 [music] I think. So yes, if you loved that Razor Crest, which a lot of people do, you will [music] love this one. This kit, like the other one, comes with both Mandalorian and Grogu, Mr. Pedro Pascal himself, [music] Jose Pedro Pascal. And because it is a feature that Mandalorian and Grogu are part [music] of the kit, you do get clear parts for a pretty clear cockpit, [music] which is nice. so you can see them at all times.
Most importantly, it comes with the feature of [music] being able to put the landing gear down and having the doors wide open. So, that would be the personnel [music] door and the cargo bay door. Some people do like to display it with a very sturdy base, which [music] we’ll get to in a sec. And of course, the most optional feature of them all, the fact that it has clearance within it to house a custom lighting [music] kit. Uh, yeah, it’s completely up to you. I believe AMT sells that separately. We don’t though. Oh, and it’s 13 plus in [music] long. A big boy. But Paul, these are already things featured in the original Razer Crest. What changed? We’ll get to that. Excel craft blade.
Unboxing
These are all the parts. And the first thing to absolutely notice if you’ve never built any of the Star Wars AMT kits is how incredibly well sculpted they are. a far cry from what AMT typically [music] shells out with a lot of their older car kits, like the retro stuff that they’ve cornered. A lot of those kits are much maligned at the worst [music] and eh at best, right? But these Star Wars licensed kits have been [music] nothing but incredibly well sculpted. And I’m going to say it right now because again, it’s AMT. They have a reputation uh online. These Star Wars kits doesn’t really need a lot of putty work. There may be some, and I’ll get to that in a sec, but for what you’re used to with, they’re borderline perfect, right? And uh these are the engines, right? And the cells and wow, beat that Star Trek. [laughter] Sorry. Uh I got a lot of flack for what [music] I’ve said with the Star Trek kit review.
Um so just a light jab. They can take it. Here we go. So, there’s our boy, Pedro Balmaceda Pascal. Jose Pedro Balmaceda [music] Pascal. And his baby. Look at him. He’s like a speck. He’s so small. To be honest with you, with the Mandalorian one, it’s decently sculpted. It’s not [music] the worst. Uh, and it’s not the best either. It’s just okay, you know? It’s all right. Here are the clear parts for both the cockpit [music] and what I’m assuming is the base. Yeah, it should be the base. Um, so that’s interesting. Um, it [music] is quite clear actually. I thought it would be like cheaply made, but no, it’s quite nice. This kit also comes with a massive decal sheet like the previous kit, but this sheet in particular is updated to the movie standards because uh, well, spoiler alert for season 2 of The Mandalorian TV show, the [music] original Razor Crest gets blown up. Um so it has to be updated um [music] for a newer standard and a newer model.
Another new feature is that the wing necessels or the [music] engine the cells sorry are completely updated. So this is probably its biggest feature in terms of mold updates is that the engine the cells itself is a little bit better. There’s a little bit more greblies. [music] And by greblies, I mean, you know, the little bumpy things on like the Star Destroyer. Little bit more details like that compared to the original. Especially where all the fan blades are and the front of the turbine. Yes, that is way more detailed than the original is, especially considering that it is a TV show budget compared to a movie budget. So, it just makes sense. So again, to reiterate the positives,
Comparing AMT 1273
it’s the exact same tooling as the beloved AMT 2021 version, uh the TV show version with slight alterations, which is also a [music] positive for the movie version than the cells. The engines are slightly more detailed, more grely there. Um, and the decal sheet is brand new essentially. There’s very little putty work. We’ll get to that in a sec. And it also comes with a pretty robust flying base as well. A pretty big positive. If you don’t want it landed with the uh the pods open, you can display it flying with a pretty sturdy metal brace. But that’s about it. That’s where the positives end. I guess the Mandalorian Denjarun is decently sculpted and Grou is even better sculpted. Who cares? Uh because the negatives are who cares, right?
Because it’s the exact same kit basically, right? Um, if you already have this kit, you already purchased it. It’s a bestseller for our store, the original version. So, we know it sells quite a bit, then you don’t need this. You straight up just don’t. All minor alterations here and there with the decal sheet and the engine cells, uh, being slightly different and a little bit more detailed. Otherwise, if you feel like you’re truly missing out, guys, you would grab Aland Sunset from the artist formerly known as Citadel Paints. Yeah, Warhammer Paints. And you would just paint on the stripes, the yellow stripes. That’s it. It’s the exact same. Bravo. You now have model A. It transformed it to model B. 1 A 1B. The same. They’re the same picture.
Pros and Cons
The other big negative thing here is actually the engines themselves. Now, this is not a a problem with this kit alone. It’s also a problem with the other release actually. So, let’s take a look at it. So, see how all the engines gluing or snapping to each other and it’s just one straight line. [music] Yeah, that’s an issue. There’s no breaks there. That means that it has to be perfectly perfectly sculpted for there to be zero gaps. And [music] there have been some reports online that there have been some tiny [music] gaps. So, not only will you maybe have to use putty on these uh sections here, the the engine the cells, but also the fact that you will [music] have to sand like crazy to remove the seam line. It’s just inevitable. Um [music] seam lines are very annoying.
This is one massive seam line, guys. That’s crazy. That’s huge. And uh depending on how good you are at sanding, you will lose some of the details just because of how much sanding you will [music] have to do. That is a massive massive downside. This is the [music] biggest downside of this model kit actually and why it’s not universally beloved and praised because when they come to the engines, [music] people start hating their lives. Otherwise though, this is a quite a good kit and that hasn’t changed from that release to this release. It’s just that the engines are terrible. So, what do you think of this kit? And if you guys didn’t figure it out yet, that’s it for me today. [laughter] What do you think of this kit? Do you have the older version or do you have
Paul’s Conclusion
this newer one? [music] If you have both, why? Uh, [laughter] but if you do have both, let me know. And if you only have one or the other, again, let me know what do you think of this kit. Uh, also let me know if you want me to build this kit and suffer the I guess [music] the consequences of talking about the engines so that you guys would want me to review it. Who knows? But yeah, that’s it. Uh, this kit is available on our website right now, sunwardhobbies.ca. Also, down below is our links to our social media pages. We’re incredibly active on all of them. And finally, we’re trying to hit 20K subs. Uh the initial goal was end of year, but it seems like projection says we’re going to hit it prior to end of summer. Let’s hope that is true. Uh and again, if you like this video, like and subscribe. Yeah, we truly do appreciate the support. Uh gone are the days where we begging for a thousand subs. Thank you guys so much for the support. And as always, bye-bye.
