Born as an evolution of its predecessor, the Curtiss P-36 with radial engine, the Curtiss P-40 has become one of the most famous and used aircraft of the Second World War. Between 1941 and 1944 it also played a fundamental role, both as an air superiority fighter and as a fighter-bomber, in numerous operating theaters from North Africa to Italy, from China to the South Pacific. Characterized by a very robust and reliable aerodynamic structure, the Curtiss P-40 was equipped with an Allison V-12 engine capable of delivering over 1,150 horsepower and capable of making the aircraft reach speeds of 580 km / h. In particular, the P-40E, combined the sturdy structure with a firepower of all respect for the time. Also known among Commonwealth troops as Kittyhawk Mk I, the P-40E was armed with six 12.7 mm M2 browning machine guns. installed in the wings. Often characterized by original liveries and a strong visual impact, it was also used as a fighter-bomber thanks to its operational flexibility and the ability to carry almost 900 kg of bombs.
