Background information

The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is one of the most extraordinary aircraft in modern military history. As the first mass-produced tiltrotor convertible aircraft (“tiltrotor”), it combines the advantages of a helicopter with those of a turboprop aircraft. It can take off and land vertically, but by pivoting the huge rotors during flight, it can achieve high speeds and ranges that are unattainable for normal helicopters. This hybrid position made development extremely complex and expensive, but today the Osprey has become an integral part of the arsenals of the US Marines and the Air Force.
