A Weighty Adversary
The Soviet KV-1 was officially adopted in 1939 and went through a number of variants. Model 1941 KV-1s employed the 76.2mm ZIS-5 gun, which could tear through the armor on contemporary German tanks; its early production variants had a welded turret with armor up to 75mm thick, and hung tough in fierce fighting with German armor following the Nazi German invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941, contributing to the Soviet resistance that would eventually turn the tables and push back the German advance.

Soldiers were modelers, too?
It is said that German front line troops were provided with wooden and paper models of the KV-1 in a scale of around 1/20, to help identify the tanks and formulate counter-strategies. This kit includes a version in miniature 1/35 scale on the painting guide to cut out and use in dioramas of tactical meetings and the like.

Tamiya 1/35 KV 1 Russian tank 1941

Advanced for its time, Russian KV 1 featured heavy armor, wide track, diesel power, and lasted most of the war along side over 30,000 T34's by 1945.

Molded in flash free olive drab parts, this is a 2020 release with link and length track, additional parts to add to body, 2 stowage boxes shown although you get extra, either open or closed., Hinges and underside hatch detail if you want to leave open (there is no interior detail). Black painted string tow cable and main gun one piece with open end barrel. Weld edge cut detail is great.

Road wheels use poly caps with a hub to hold them in. Wheel early variants had no rubber rims so painting (can be) simplified unless you decide you want to color rims. Clear headlight lens and two machine guns back and front. Decals no issue..

A straight forward release with flat parts (i.e. turret is a flat sided built up box) but fit is without issue. Some detail to be careful with. Link and length tracks are different on each side. Turret is not a fit top and bottom affair. Tabs to lock turret for rotation are built in several circular (collar type pieces) around the bottom section.

Found pics. of German captured KV 1 vehicles on Web. A green lower hull and wheel paint scheme with German gray body. Better than all green. Am redoing top in captured gray and hunting some German markings.

About 25 hours for main build, a quality kit for newer modelers, and those more advanced to go to town with.
