Unboxing & Review 1/48 Scale

Intro

Hello all. This is David from Sunward Hobbies and in today’s video we are going to be unboxing Revell’s new [music] 1/48 scale Bristol Beaufighter Mark VI. [music] That’s it. That’s the intro. I can’t be clever all the time.

Kit History

So, uh, Revell’s brand new release, and by brand new, I actually mean, uh, one year old, as This actually came out last October, but uh hey, it’s brand new to Sunward Hobbies. This is a rebox. However, unlike most Revell offerings, this is a rebox of a kit that they designed within the last 10 years. So, it’s not barf worthy. Uh they first released this as the TF Mark 10, then they rebooted it as the Mark 1 Night Fighter, and now they’ve rebooted it again as the Mark VI Heavy Fighter essentially. [music] And like the other boxes, it’s quite thick.

It honestly probably doesn’t need to be that big. Uh but Revell, for some reason, likes to put some of their kits in oversized boxes. I don’t know, maybe to make it look more expensive than actually is. Anyhow, another cool feature here is top opening. So, I think Revell is finally getting the idea that uh nobody likes their side opening boxes.

Unboxing

So, as you open it up, the first thing that catches my eye is the color of these sprues. Did they really have to go with metallic gray? [music] Not really a fan of colored sprues, but whatever. It’s not a big deal. So, we got a decent amount of parts here. I’ll look over them in more detail in a second. We’ve got several sprues in this first bag. You’ve got your two fuselage halves. Some nice interior structure detail.

Fuselage & Tail Wings Sprue

Surface detail is not bad. The lines are nice recessed. No rivet detail though. You got a sprue for the tail wing area. They give you two sprues for the tail plane. And uh you have the option of the the later marks with the uh upward pointing elevators or the earlier marks with the straight horizontal ones.

Nose Cone & Bulk Head & Propellers Sprue

Another little sprue here with the uh nose cone which houses the radar antenna as well as I believe this is racks for bombs or rockets. And then um you’ve got a whole sprue for one bulkhead. Okay. Next bag contains sprues for the engine cowlings. Looks like this one has some exhaust stacks, a propeller, uh a the tail wheel, some ammunition boxes, [music] and radiator drills. And this most likely is the landing gear covers, which uh it would appear that [music] you have to cut them open yourself if you want the gear down.

Engines & Landing Gear & Wings

And here we’ve got cowling flaps, either closed or open. Your radial engines, some parts for the landing gear legs and bulkheads for Revell standards. Uh, decent quality on the surface detail. Now, we’ve got the bottom half of the wings. As you can see, uh, the Beaufighter is quite a chunky plane. Not really sure why they called it Beaufighter. It’s not exactly a beautiful plane. And there’s your top halves of the wings.

Cockpit & Floor & Clear Parts

This sprue looks to consist of a few cockpit parts like uh side consoles, instrument panels, and on this sprue you’ve got the entire floor section of the plane from cockpit to the tail wheel essentially. Uh again, you have options for the short nose version with no radar antenna. And the last sprue is the clear parts. So you got some windows, uh, landing light covers.

Decals & Instructions

Now, here is your decal sheet with options for two marking schemes, one RAF and another RAF, as well as decals for the instrument panel and some stencils. And lastly, the instruction seat in colour. What the? Come on, Revell. So, I guess I can’t show you the inside, but um not to worry. If you just search the kit on scalemates, they will have a downloadable PDF of the instructions. David’s Conclusion

In conclusion, apart from a few annoyances that only Revell could accomplish, it’s a pretty decent kit. It’s got good detail and you even have some custom options. If you choose to build other marks than the Mark VI. So, if you do want a 1/48 scale Beaufighter in your collection, then this is the one. if you can’t find the Tamiya ones.
