First Look

Intro

Hello all. This is David from Sunward Hobbies and in today’s video, you are going to be getting a very special sneak peek at AK’s highly anticipated new paint line coming out this October. It is their Glow Precision Fluorescent Inks. High coverage fluid enamels with intense color and a matte finish. These inks glow in the dark and are perfect for creating light and glow effects. But we’ve heard that kind of thing before, haven’t we? Talk is cheap. Action is all that matters. So, are these fluorescent inks worth the hype?

Paint Attributes

Well, and here is your fluorescent lineup. Seven bright and bold colors to add some serious pop to your project. I am a little puzzled though that they didn’t make a blue, but I guess there’s always room for future expansion. Now, to answer your first question, these are enamel based. It says so in the description, but I didn’t even really have to read that. I could tell just by smelling it. Not that I’d go around smelling.

So, it can be applied with a brush. In fact, the cap has a precision brush attached to it. So really, these are almost like panel liners.

And on top of being able to brush them on, you can also even airbrush these on. So during my demonstration, I will be showing how these go on with the included brush as well as through an airbrush.

For demonstrative purposes, I will be testing these inks on this dried racer body as well as this soldier.

So stay tuned. I’m about to brighten up your day.

Pink Application

So I’m going to take a little sample from each color, starting with pink, and just draw a few scribbles on this plastic here. See how it goes on, if I have any complaints or praises. So let’s get started.

Red Application

Hey, hey, hey.

Yellow Application

Light Orange Application

Brush Application Verdict

My verdict so far for brushing it on at least. Yeah. Because it is so thin and runny, it would require several coats to get a fully opaque finish. Obviously, depending on what it is you’re painting, if you’re covering a mini or whatever in this paint, then you will need several coats. If you’re just highlighting something or adding maybe like a flame effect or a lightsaber effect, then you won’t need too much. Uh, one thing I did notice, however, uh, I forgot to mention earlier, I had already pre-primed this plastic in the white fluorescent base.

I did notice, however, that it smudges a little bit. Now, that could just be because this is enamel and enamel takes quite a long time to dry. Uh, so it could just be that. However, what I would personally use for a base for these to go on top of is either Tamiya surface primer white or Mr White Surfacer.

That way uh you’ll these those are lacquer based. They’ll dry instantly and you can immediately get to work on these fluorescents. But anyway, uh so that’s how it brushes on.

Airbrush Application Test

Now, with the help of this guy here, I am going to test how these airbrush primarily using the green and the red. All right, let’s get to it.

Heat up here.

Airbrush Result

Well, I’ll be that airbrushed very nicely. Uh, I didn’t have to thin it at all. went on in uh really just two light coats essentially. And it is so bright and vibrant. It’s ridiculous. So, uh I can say that uh it airbrushes better than it brushes on. So, uh lucky you if you have an airbrush at home. Now, just one last thing I need to find out before I conclude this video.

Glow in the Dark Test

how it looks under UV light in the dark. Feel like busting out the glow sticks and listening to some Tracy Lords. So, um, if you could notice when you brush it on, it does appear to be brighter than when you airbrush it. But regardless, still looks incredible. Now, that’s a cool product.

David’s Conclusion

In conclusion, these inks are the shiznit. They’re extremely colorful, easy to work with, and quite versatile in their use. So, if your project needs that rave aesthetic, look no further.

So, be sure to re reserve a few inks and pre-order them at Sunward Hobbies in store or online. Thank you very much for watching this video. Remember to like, comment, subscribe, follow us on our socials, and until the next one.
