Description

Trimming flash is not our favorite part of the hobby.

Enter the Flash Master Blade. The result of research and development is a slimmer, flexible blade that gives you much more control of how much flash you remove. Think of the figures that you have encountered with the toughest material to trim. The Flash Master will glide through that flash. It won’t make the job easy, but it will make it EASIER – and the results will be so much better.

The Flash Master will hold its edge at least THREE TIMES as long as a traditional blade. Sometimes the rigid traditional blade is better at tasks where I need to scrape a little – or chop a big chunk away. But for some of the most important and delicate spots, the Flash Master is the only way to go.

The Flash Master works with most popular blade handles. However, the blades are small and super-slim, so the important question is: Does your blade handle close completely? If yes, you are all set.

We’ve tried it on a number of blade holders from many manufacturers. If you’re in doubt, we know for certain that they will work with the X-Acto #1, the X-Acto #2, the Xacto Curve, and the X-Acto Griptster. If your blade holder won’t tighten to a complete close, chances are that there is some oxidization on the threads. (You may not have asked it to go that far in years.) Usually backing it off completely and knocking some old gunk off the threads does the trick. Reassemble and tighten without any blade in place to see if it closes until there is no gap in the blade slot. Then, back off just a little and slide the Flash Master in place and re-tighten.

Amazing

Don’t buy these. I dread the day sunward runs out.

Should this be your main blade? No, obviously.

But every ****y mold line that I once had trouble with now has a proper tool. These things are indispensable to me.

They take a bit of getting used to. I didn’t get it at first and after experimenting a bit my mind was being blown.

Hint: try a scooping motion while bending the blade.

Still deciding. Not amazed.

I’m still deciding if these blades are really any better than a good, sharp #11 blade. They appear to have some potential, but they are far from revolutionary. The price is considerable ( 2-10 blade packs plus shipping to BC was $44) so once these are gone, unless they prove to be spectacular, I won’t be ordering more.

Good but very specialized.

These blades are great for their advertised purpose, but not much else. With some practice it’s possible to cut away flash in even the tightest spots of a model. However the blades are too thin for much else. They aren’t even good at cutting away sprue gates if there’s more than a millimetre thickness or so. In other words great for flash but you’ll still need a more general purpose modelling knife for everything else.

Short changed

I ordered the flash master blades. I received the blades by mail in record time. The site picture shows the blades and a case to hold them in. The site description also says you will receive 10 blades. When l opened the package the blades were in a plastic bag with no case. When l counted the blades l only received 9. Short changed on the blades and no blade storage case. When you pay $15.99 + $9.99 shipping + $3.38 hst total $29.36 you should get what was shown and described. I am very disappointed to say the least.
